Day Five - Huerta and Ramirez

Santiago Huerta offers his expert lecture addressing the fundamental aspects of arch design, combined with his long experience making structural analysis of some of the most important historical buildings in the world and his incredible discoveries of previously unseen structural solutions.

Alfonso Ramirez gives his inspiring lecture where he combines sophisticated vaulting shapes while applying strictly local artisan/craft techniques. As Alfonso remarks, if Architecture is an art, it is impossible that the various contributions of the making of a building are not also artistic. An artwork necessarily has to be the sum of artistic craft-components. ("Arquitectura por tanto debe necesariamente ser el resultado final de los diversos quehaceres artísticos que la componen.")

Miguel Ramis and Tatiana Bilbao discuss how the barrel vault functions a teaching process for the participants.

The traditional projects continue forth: a basket handle barrel vault, a dry stone wall exercise, and a floor pebble mosaic.

Design group 3 spend time developing their concept for Saturday's proposal presentations.
